Community Bus Appeal

Forfar Rotary Community Bus Donation.

The Local Forfarian Bus has embarked on a mammoth task to raise £25000 to replace their existing bus. The failure of the wheelchair lifting platform is one of the many problems encountered leading to costly repairs. Intermittent faults have led to people being stuck at the roadside and even worse stuck inside the vehicle. This may not seem serious until you try to get assistance and as usual its always someone else’s problem”. Thankfully the Fire and Rescue Service provided assistance on the day and have offered to assist should the need ever arise again.

Forfar Rotary Club President Tim Hale went along to present the Community Bus Trust with a cheque for £500 to assist in their fund raising efforts. Tim explained that this is another way of thanking the Forfar public for all that they do in support of the Rotary Club and is seen as another aspect of giving something back to a local charity for their excellent voluntary work. On handing over the cheque to Chairman Kate McFarlane he passed on the best wishes of the Rotary Club and hoped they succeed in raising their ultimate target.

For years the Forfarian has provided very affordable transport service for local voluntary groups including churches, disabled and sheltered housing residents, residents’ associations and the elderly and infirm thus providing an invaluable service. The bus is a lifeline for these groups and is regarded as essential for maintaining social contact.
