23 May 2020Covid 19

The Rotary Club of Forfar have set up a Covid 19 Fund to help those in need in the Forfar Area. Forfar Rotarian David Valentine has been key to the sourcing of PPE masks for this initiative for the procurement of Face Masks through his contacts in business internationally and we recognise his value in true Rotarian fashion of “Service above Self.”

Working with Voluntary Action Angus (VAA) and Angus Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) Forfar Rotary Club has purchased and will distribute  20,000 PPE face masks for use within the Forfar Area.

Any carer, other person or organisations that require PPE face masks, while carrying out a front line charitable or voluntary service to individuals or groups of people during the Covid 19 crisis, would be welcome to request these from the Club through our Facebook Page, our Website or via our dedicated Telephone Number 07835013095.

Requests can be done from the website www.forfarrotary.org.uk .Click on the Feedback Button, enter your request and details so we can assess your application.

How Can You Help – Due to the current situation, The Rotary Club of Forfar has been unable to run its usual fundraising activities so we have set up a Just Giving page for donations to our Charitable Trust to enable us initially, to supply PPE face masks to safeguard carers and other people on the front line in our local area and to serve our community in other ways during these difficult times for us all. Forfar Rotary has donated thousands of pounds in the community over the years but now we must appeal to the public and business to contribute now that our normal fundraising events have had to be cancelled.

To make a donation use the link for the Rotary website and then on the left hand bottom button "Masks Appeal" click and you are directly into our JustGiving page. OR Simply use the link from our Facebook Page

Information will be updated as we progress with this undertaking by Forfar Rotary by using our Facebook Page as we react to the demand and the availability of various types of Masks.

10 May 2020Rotary Connects the World

Forfar Rotary Connects with the World.

Never has this year’s Rotary Logo and message been more appropriate and this was the case when David Valentine, a Forfar Rotarian with connections in China and therefore Chinese people in Scotland. Y Connects the world

Forfar Rotary Club’s COVID-19 Appeal received a great boost this week following a generous donation of much needed protective face masks.

David Lu, owner of the Manchurian restaurant in Gellatly Street, Dundee, and President of the Fujian Scotland Chinese Association, handed over 7,000 face masks and 20 protective overalls to Forfar Rotary Club President Doug McFarlane and Rotarian Dave Valentine in support of the club’s initiative to protect volunteers and the general public in and around Forfar and Angus.

Mr Lu commented:
“I am aware of the hard work being done by the Rotary Club in Forfar and hope this donation will boost their efforts to safeguard people from the pandemic virus. Our Chinese homeland received considerable support and offers of assistance in January and we hope these masks will show our heartfelt appreciation and support”.

Forfar Rotary Club began the initiative at the beginning of April when 10,000 masks were donated by a friend of Dave Valentine who runs a logistics company in Shanghai. Last week the club received another 10,000 face masks from the Chinese Consul General Ma Qiang on behalf of the Shandong Provincial Government due to the close links existing between Angus and Yantai, a city within Shandong.

This donation of masks from David Lu will be distributed to people keen to safeguard themselves while at the same time observing the 2 metres social distancing guidelines. President Doug added “We are also hoping to add further measures to safeguard the well being of our citizens and those who will be looking to get back to work. This is not going to be a sprint but a marathon”

02 May 2020Visors from Forfar Academy

Forfar Rotary Assist Forfar Academy Project

Forfar Rotarian Bob Baldie asked the Club to support Forfar Academy Technical Department to enable them to purchase materials to produce PPE Visors. As the club are already involved in their programmme of Covid 19 projects it was felt that this would be a very worthwhile addition. Forfar Rotary President Doug McFarlane was pleased to inform Bob that the club have agreed to donate £300. In return Forfar Rotary will have access to some of the visors should they find a need for them.

You be maybe aware -all the Angus Secondary Schools Technical departments have come together to manufacture vital PPE visors, Cloth Masks and scrubs bags for key workers across the whole of Dundee & Angus “Free of charge.”

In order to keep this a free of charge project to essential workers they are looking to raise funds to keep their manufacturing efforts going in Arbroath,  Carnoustie, Forfar, Brechin , Monifieth and Kirrie schools.

To date they have supplied over 6000 visors into the Angus and Dundee  area which includes the NHS departments, Carehomes and local businesses like Pharmacies, Opticians and Banks, as well as local retailers that are open.

You can see some of their work documented through @Fatech_ed and @AngsYngEngs on Twitter. So if you can help with finance it is a much needed product in the fight against Covid 19.

They are looking to buy around £2000-3000 worth of materials and machine consumables  to enable all the schools to continue this Covid 19 project producing a further 6000 visors.

24 April 2020Caring for Kids

Thank you once again for the donation of £250 towards our appeal.   We have also posted out a thank you message on our Facebook page this week.

I’m delighted to let you know that the money you donated is being put to good use as we speak! One of the family support workers within Forfar had asked for help in supporting 61 children, ranging from new born babies through to teenagers.  Those families were struggling to feed the children and needed support with other basic essentials too.

With your donation, the family support worker is able to put together care packages for them this week.

Thank you so much for your support and I hope that you are pleased that the funds have remained in Forfar as promised.

18 April 2020Happy Birthday Harold

A Happy 90th Birthday.

Forfar Rotarian Harold Jackson had reason to go out and celebrate this week but due to social distancing this was not possible. Harold instead had the company of his wife Rose as he cut the cake thereby celebrating his 90th Birthday.

He did in fact have a visit from Rotary President Doug McFarlane and his wife Kate who kept to the social distancing but presented Harold with a bottle of whisky on behalf of the club.

Phone calls as well as online fun and chats with family and friends helped to make it a special day for this popular Rotarian.
