Alan White

Forfar Rotary Club has been saddened by the sudden death of Alan White, a stalwart of the club for many years. At Wednesdays meeting the Rotarians stood in silence to reflect on his service to the club and the community.

Alan ran a successful dairy for more than 30 years but continued to work assisting his son in the newsagents business in West High Street.

He married his wife, Mary, in 1966 and the couple set up home in Dunfermline. They have two children, Adrian and Judith, and three grandchildren.

Alan, who was 75, was also able to devote additional time to his many and varied interests and the local organisations he was involved with over many years.

He was a dedicated Forfar Rotarian and was never far behind if volunteers were required. He was president of Forfar Rotary Club in 2000 / 2001. He was in the Rotary curling team that won the organisation’s Scottish championship Ram’s Head trophy on a number of occasions, as well as a gold medal in the Rotary World championships in Kinross in 1990, followed two years’ later by silver at Utica in the United States. Alan was awarded the Paul Harris in recognition of his service to the Forfar Rotary Club.

Alan’s Rotary involvement included driving Santa’s sleigh on its annual festive fundraising collection in Forfar and the surrounding area and brought Santa to the Cross.

He was also a long-time volunteer driver of the Forfarian community bus trust, a popular choice as one of the original drivers.

A member of Forfar and Fotheringham Curling Clubs, a member of Forfar Golf Club, and a prominent member of Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club, the organisers of the Scottish Transport Extravaganza at Glamis Castle.

His presence at Forfar Rotary, this likeable character will be greatly missed, our thoughts are with Mary, Adrian and Judith and the grand children.
