The Salvation Army

Hearing of the needs of the needy prompted Forfar Rotary to present a cheque for £500 to the local branch of the Salvation Army. President Scott Ballantyne did the honours when he gave the cheque on behalf of the club to fellow Rotarian and Salvation Army Major Jim McCluskey.

In thanking the Rotary Club for it generosity he explained the  Salvation Army covers many needs in it's services to the community. For instance at Christmas time there was an unprecedented call for assistance to provide gifts for children where otherwise there would have been difficulty in families providing for their children. This was a very satisfying area of service for us. We continue to provide, on a daily basis, up to a dozen food parcels and the need is growing. Families have been helped with the provision of a low cost holiday and other areas of need have been met from our local resources. Outings have been provided for local children and over 150 older people received a Christmas gift from us.

This, of course, could not be sustained without the help of groups such as Forfar Rotary whose support of local good causes is quite incredible.

The funds were provided by the proceeds of the Santa Sleigh collection so it was good to see it being used to assist in the community where the most needy in the town benefitted.
