Santa's new Sleigh

Rotary Helps Santa.

This was the end of the beginning.

Santa had a real problem when he came to Forfar last year as his sleigh failed its MOT and only a temporary job saw it back in use. Not wanting the same problems this year the Forfar Rotary Club has been busy making a suitable replacement for Santa and having demolished a delapidated caravan set about saving the chassis frame.

Following a complete refurbishment programme to the chassis and mechanics they have constructed a new sleigh fit for purpose to make sure the residents of Forfar will not be disappointed when Santa comes to town.  He will take part in the switching on of the christmas tree and street lights. The Cross on Thursday 29th November is the date and as in previous years the public are requested to arrive from 6.00pm  when the Forfar instrumental Band will entertain. Shops in and around the Cross are being encouraged to remain open.

All this work would not be possible without the generous help received from local business's who once more have made donations of wood, nails, paint, electrics, flooring etc thereby keeping down the costs of this public service asset. Many Rotarians have give their time and labour and the club has financially supported the project but they are indebted to Orchardbank Timber Products, Thrum’s Engineering Services, A M Phillips ,Whitton’s Carpets and Strathmore Park for the use of their storage premises. Thanks to you all for your response by assisting us in these times of finacial austerity. Without your help it would not have been possible to do the work in such a short time frame. Santa, Mrs Claus and the Elves will distribute sweets and an orange to all the children who hand over their letter all of which has been sponsored by Tesco Forfar.

Parents are reminded of the importance of making sure the letters have legible full names and an address so that replies can be delivered to their children.

The sleigh has enhanced lighting a better sound system as well as more room and safety for Santa and the elves. The sleigh will also be put to good use when Santa makes a tour round the streets of Forfar in December. Dates and a timetable of when your area will be visited will be published at a later date and details will also appear on the Forfar Rotary website

Here's how it Finished
