This week was a significant one for Forfar Rotary when their normal meeting was changed from the normal Wednesday night to a Partners Evening on Friday. It fell to President Mike Cumming to welcome all the guests and in particular the Inner Wheel President Marion Fenwick and Speaker Ronnie Proctor.

After a lovely meal served up by the staff at the Stag Hotel, the evening was made all the more special when a Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded to the well know Forfarian Neill Wilson.

Neill is a past president of the club, his year in office being 1988/89 when he was to prove to be a most successful leader.

A history of his achievements were humorously related by Rotarian John Seaton who has known Neill through out his Footballing, Business and Rotary years, making obvious comments of Neill's service to the community through Rotary and his current standing as Chairman of Forfar Athletic.

President Mike then conferred the honour of the Paul Harris Fellowship, presenting him with his medal and certificate. He re-iterated the significance of the award as being the highest honour given in the Rotary movement and one only reserved for those who have made a huge contribution to “Service above Self”

Neill then gave a thank you to the club in his own inimitable way, spilling the beans on some of his exploits over the years and having the assembled company with tears rolling down their eyes. Many of the Rotarians were the butt of his droll wit and well as that if his wife Gill who managed to give a knowing smile to much of what was said. In conclusion he said he felt honoured and humbled by the experience of receiving the award and wished further success to Forfar Rotary.

Last to speak on the night was Ronnie Proctor who gave a potted history of his army career from his days as a private, rising to one of a high ranking officer. As well as his stories of army life he went on to explain where money donated to the armed forces charities ended up and gave some examples of where it has aided those who have fallen on hard times or have needed medical care when wounded during service.

The evening was closed by president Mike who thanked everyone and wished them all a safe journey home.
