A Dynamic Duo.

DYNAMIC DUO HONOURED.

Forfar Rotary had an unusual Zoom meeting this week in that they had a speaker who is heavily involved in the Free to Live Trust. What made it more unusual is the fact that Pam Cairns is the wife of Rotarian Alan Cairns. The talk was given after two Rotarians Tim Hale and husband Alan were honoured with a Paul Harris in recognition of outstanding service.

Fellow Rotarian, Secretary David Stobbs gave a potted history of Alan’s service since he joined and as you can see he has always been heavily involved in all that he does.

Alan, a retired Pharmacist joined in 2009 and lived in a smallholding where he kept hens and from the egg sales donated money to the club over 2/3 years. He was President in 2014/15 and Treasurer for 3 years.

He took the leading role of a new initiative as chair of Strathmore Classic Car Tour committee the 4 events raised well over £30,000 for Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance.

All these Rotary achievements while being heavily involved with charity work with wife Pam, most recently both have been trustees of Free to Live Trust: Raising awareness of modern slavery and raising money for the establishment of a children's home in Pune India for the offspring of prostitutes (street women?).

Pam and Alan have now moved to Carrbridge and obviously will be missed by Forfar Rotary although he is hoping to join RC Spey Valley. Their work in the Free to Live Trust is worth following and Pam has written two books.

Tim's history was delivered by President Colin Muir and it is as follows.

He joined Rotary in 2007 and barely had his feet under the table before becoming Marafun Convenor 2008- 2012. He held office as President Elect 2011 taking over as President 2012.

International Convenor 2014- 2019 . Health and Safety and Children Protection Officer for the club since 2008 a post that is ongoing. Has been involved in all fundraising event, Glamis Extravaganza where Rotarians Man the ticket booths. Christmas events and is currently co-ordinating the construction of a dual purpose mobile advertising trailer / New Santa Sleigh.

Tim took on the role of Zoom organiser for all Club and Council meetings and many the many extra committee meetings last year and has given a great deal of technical help to members to try and help them join the meetings via Zoom.
As if that is not enough of a work load he is again taking the lead as President next year.

Yes I’m sure you will agree that the dynamic Duo are worthy recipients of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, an accolade from the Club’s membership.
