Flying with Classic cars

Flying with Classic Cars.

A strange headline but this week the Rotary Club of Forfar finalised their accounts after the second successful running of the Strathmore Classic Car Tour 2017. The proceeds of which had already been agreed as being earmarked for the Scotlands Charity Air Ambulance. Forfar Rotarians David Stobbs ,Colin Muir and Ian Findlay were met at the Scone HQ by Fiona Dennis to hand over of the cheque and to be introduced to some of the crew.

As it happened there was a call for the Air Ambulance and so instead they were able to watch the crew prepare for take off and given an idea of the complexity of that preparation. The flight was to fetch a patient from the Isle of Tiree to the mainland for treatment, a straight forward occurrence you might think. NO, they have to factor in the weight of the crew plus the patient etc. to work out the fuel load and where fuel can be had during the trip.

The Rotarians were then taken to the control room where John Pritchard gave more information and further insight to the types of cases where the Air Ambulance was used. Their knowledge of where and when they might be required to go anywhere in Scotland is backed up by their records, time of year, weather conditions, sporting activities etc. all important information.

In conclusion David handed over a cheque to the charity for £9,045 45p which is the Forfar Rotary Club’s second cheque from the running of the Strathmore Classic Car Tour.

Forfar Rotary are very appreciative of their sponsors The Fisken Motor Group and Guild Homes and of course all those who took part in the event its self providing us with more individual sponsorship money. Our two main sponsors have already committed to the 2018 Tour.

The Strathmore Classic Car Tour 2018 is already well into the planning stage with the route established, lunch stop booked etc. The entries are already up the 35 so only 25 places left up for grabs. If anyone is interested the entry form can be downloaded from the club website www.forfarrotary.org.uk
