More Local Support from Forfar Rotary

Forfar Drugs Initiative Group (The Pitstop) – provide hours of youth work activity with an average attendance of 35 young people on each night that they are open. The project reports a number of benefits to young people including gains in confidence, communication and ability to work with others. Also growth in self-belief with young people taking greater levels of responsibility for themselves and others.

Having personal esteem, may not seem at first to have any bearing on whether or not a young person can survive in the modern world where everyone can shout their views and no one bats an eyelid. However most of us are fortunate to be able to cope without thought for those with problems. Problems that might make them experiment with drugs, smoking or drinking to hide behind their hidden fears. The ability to discuss their problems freely without fear of being laughed at or scorned can turn despair into meaningful friendships.

Forfar Rotary Club has taken an interest in the work of Pitstop and felt that it was worthy of finacial support after receiving a letter from the group requesting financial assistance in a new initiative, providing support for Children and young adults suffering with Autism so, awarding them with with £500 cheque was therefore not a difficult decision.

Pitstop are hoping to provide small group sessions with a basement level soft floored sensory room with subdued lighting and quiet space pods and craft sessions and on the upper floor, the usual activities you might expect within a social environment including, pool, darts, gaming and other play opportunities. This will allow children with adult guidance to have fun and develop friendships in a supportive, controlled, structured environment adapted to their sensory needs.

On presenting the cheque on behalf of Forfar Rotary President Paula wished the venture success and commented this was another example of how diverse the work of Rotary is and asked anyone interested in joining to contact the club using the club website where more information on the clubs activities an be sourced.
