World Polio Day

World Polio Day.

In case you are not aware as to why Forfar Rotary Club has planted hundreds of Crocus Corms to enhance the frontage at the F.O.G.S Garden as well as providing hundreds more for use in and around the town its all to do with Purple Pinkies and World Polio Day on the 23rd October. Why Purple Pinkies ? Well when the children get the vaccine they get their pinkies coated in purple dye, much to their amusement, but also lets the medical teams see at a glance whether a child has been missed or indeed has already been done.

For years Rotary Clubs World wide have been working to eradicate Polio and are closing in to achieving this goal with only tiny pockets in the world still affected. Unfortunately this is often due to warring forces sending out messages that it forbidden etc.

However in the end we all hope that as in the movies, the good guys win in the end

So next spring Forfarians will be treated to carpets of purple crocuses all made possible by Rotary providing and sometimes helping, the hard working Forfar Open Garden Scheme with the task of so much planting.
