Forfar Rotarians fund raising Reaches for the Skies.

On Friday some of the members of Forfar Rotary Club attended the Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance H.Q. at Perth Airport to hand over the money raised by their event The Strathmore Classic Car Tour. Also present were Mr and Mrs Fisken of Fisken Motor Group of Forfar who along with Alan Steel Asset Management were the main sponsors of the event. The decision to support this charity was made by the Club after Forfar Rotarian Andy Renwick was airlifted off a hillside after a fall from a motor bike.

Great support was given to the Club by advertisers in the route book and donations in kind for the raffle and goody bags handed out on the day.

The rest of the money was raised by sponsorship from those who took part in the Car Tour. Individual car owners contributed to the fantastic success of the event. It was good to have other local Rotary involvement with the Rotary Club of Montrose adding their support with entries and sponsorship. The total amount raised was beyond Forfar Rotary’s wildest dreams, so thank you to everyone who contributed. A short video of the Car Tour will be available shortly. The video has been filmed and edited by Tom Callander of ‘Cloud Pro Vision’ at no cost to Forfar Rotary.

Those taking part were full of praise for the organisation of the day, with a winning route and excellent pitstops along the way, obviously the Club topped it all of by organising the glorious sunny day.

David Craig C.E.O of Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance paid tribute to the Club for the sum raised when he received the cheque for £17803.99 commenting that since taking over the role on Sept. 2015 he has been overwhelmed by the generousity and support of individuals, businesses, clubs and organisations who give so freely to support the work that they do in providing the service. No government or lottery money is provided and with an annual budget of £2.2 million every pound is indeed a lifeline.

Testimonials

“Just wanted to congratulate you and the team for a great event yesterday. Having run events like this I know how much hard work and effort goes into them. The route was great with some fantastic roads and of course the weather you booked was ideal. Both the lunch halt and the Finish venue/meal were great too.”

“Many thanks to you and your team for all your efforts in organizing the car tour on Sunday. Apart from a couple of wrong turnings we were able to follow the clear instructions provided. Everything went like clockwork and the weather was very kind to us. The midday venue was excellent and provided a tasty and most welcome lunch. The soup was particularly good. The scenery on the tour was breathtaking and most of it we had never seen before despite spending 11 years in Dundee as students and in training. Glamis Castle food was again very good and the venue excellent. Our Morris made it the 389 mile round trip without a hitch and we arrived home safely. This was its first major outing since we bought it 8 weeks ago. Bertie the dog enjoyed all the attention of the participants and the public.

We hope to see you again next year if the event is on.”

“What a great day we had on Sunday! Thank you so much for all your organisation. It must have taken you hours but was much appreciated. We really enjoyed all the roads around the Glens in the morning – many of which were new to me although Guy had been on most of them when doing his Etape training. The catering was all excellent and it was wonderful to see such a great selection of cars tootling along in the sunshine.

Well done to you all and thanks again!”

“What a great time Peter and I had on our first ever car rally, it was lovely to meet other classic car owners.and discover local roads we didn't know existed! There must have been a huge amount of work put in to making this event so successful and we would be keen to participate next year.”

“A big thank you to you and your team for a great day. Also a great result with the fund raising.
Looking forward to next year,”

Well the good news is next year's event will be - Sunday 25th June, a new route and planning starts next month.
